Alcuni italiani si sentono molto patriottici, altri no perché pensano che il patriottismo sia un sentimento obsoleto. Negli ultimi anni in Italia abbiamo avuto grandi discussioni sull'inno nazionale. Per alcune persone l'inno nazionale italiano non è appropriato e va cambiato. Qualcuno in alternativa ha proposto "Va pensiero" di Verdi.

On June 2nd in Italy we celebrate the Republic Day. It is a national holiday.
Some Italians feel very patriotic, others don't because they think patriotism is an outdated sentiment. In recent years in Italy we have had great discussions about the national anthem. For some people the Italian national anthem is not appropriate and needs to be changed. Someone proposed as an alternative "Va Pensiero" by Verdi.

"Fratelli d'Italia", l'inno nazionale italiano, fu scritto nel 1847 dal giovane poeta Goffredo Mameli e dal compositore Michele Novaro. Nel 1848, Mameli combattè nella guerra d'indipendenza e riunificazione dell'Italia e più tardi si unì a Garibaldi. Gravemente ferito, morì a 22 anni.

"Fratelli d'Italia", the Italian national anthem, was created in 1847 by the young poet Goffredo Mameli and by the composer Michele Novaro. In 1848, Mameli fought in the war for the independence and reunification of Italy, and later joined Garibaldi. Gravely wounded, Mameli died when he was 22 years old.
