L'ITALIA CATTOLICA, SANTA SCOLASTICA E SAN BENEDETTO

L'Italia, tradizionalmente cattolica, ha una grande eredità culturale di santi e monasteri.
Santa Scolastica è vissuta nella prima metà del VI secolo dopo Cristo. È una figura un po' misteriosa, di cui non conosciamo molto. Sappiamo che era sorella di San Benedetto, fondatore della "regola monastica" e dell'ordine dei monaci Benedettini.

Prima della scoperta della stampa, i monaci ricopiavano a mano i libri e ne conservavano gli originali. Il loro motto in latino era "ora et labora", prega e lavora. Santa Scolastica aveva un monastero vicino a quello di San Benedetto. Scolastica incontrava Benedetto una volta all'anno per parlare di cose spirituali.
