Tutored Intermediate 2 - Program, objectives, syllabus

In this tutored course you review, practice and reinforce how to better express your opinions, understand more complex sentences, use different kinds of past, write different kinds of letters, use the future, the conditional, the imperative, pronouns and idiomatic expressions, relate situations, read Italian newspapers, watch Italian videos and visit some recommended Italian websites.

 

Upon successful completion of the Intermediate 2 you should be able to "...understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar..." start to "understand most TV news and current affairs programs." start to "understand the majority of films in standard language... interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible and take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining your views... present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to your field of interest..." (standard definition taken from the Common European Framework Self-Evaluation).

 

This course is for students who have completed the Intermediate 1 Tutored Course, or who have already studied Italian and are ready to start at Intermediate 2 level.

Standard 8 Weeks
practice from 3 to 5 hours per week; includes 6 self-study lessons (complete one level), 4 assignments, audio/video classes, final exam

Intensive 6 Weeks
practice from 6 to 10 hours per week; includes 12 self-study lessons, 4 assignments, audio/video classes, final exam (in this format you complete both levels: intermediate 1 and intermediate 2)
Extended 12 Weeks
practice from 3 to 5 hours per week; includes 10 self-study lessons (complete one level), 6 assignments, audio/video classes, final exam
  • Session 1:
    Introduction.
    Sing in Italian (listening and pronunciation exercise), review the basic-intermediate structures of the Italian language.
    Assignment.
  • Session 2:
    Learn about the Italian monastic tradition, Santa Scolastica and national parks. Learn how to narrate and congratulate someone. Relative pronouns; pronouns after a preposition; how to narrate (part 2): "trapassato prossimo".
    Intermediate lesson 7.
    Fixed-schedule Audio-Video Group Class.
  • Session 3:
    Learn about Italian theatre, Pulcinella and Naples. Learn to express preferences. The conditional (present and past conditional); special construction: conditional of "dovere, volere, potere" + infinitive. Idiomatic expressions.
    Intermediate lesson 8.
    Assignment.
  • Session 4:
    Learn about Italian literature, Pirandello and Lipari islands. Learn to express yourself in a concise way. Idiomatic expressions. Indefinite adjectives and pronouns; impersonal construction.

  • Session 5:
    Learn about Italian history, Eleonora d'Arborea and Tharros (Sardinia). Learn to write a letter. Learn to give commands or suggestions. Difference between written and spoken Italian. Imperative.

  • Session 6:
    Learn about Colombo and San Fruttuoso (Liguria).
    Learn to make plans. Reciprocal construction; other particular constructions; special construction (stare + gerundio); adverbs.
    Intermediate lesson 11.

    Learn about true friendship.
    Use of pronouns, use of verbs.

    Reinforce the basic language structures and get ready for the Intermediate level.

    Learn about italian comics, Hugo Pratt and Venice.
    What to do if you don't feel well, the famous Mediterranean diet, tell about yourself with reflexive verbs.
    Learn about Italian cinema, Fellini and Bologna.
    Speak Italian with more refined sentences and pronouns, use the future.

    Express what you like or dislike, create more complex and refined sentences with indirect pronouns.
